Opinions on Parts Store Crankshafts?

I've been poking around, what about a crank from Crankshaft Supply through RockAuto? They have one categorized for a '70 Buick GS 350, 1235419, just like my crank. And in the info section it seems to be pretty well packaged and cared for. What say you guys? my only real options are either this, or pay out the *ss to have mine fixed. I've looked for cranks. No one makes them aftermarket. The only place that sells them that are legit is TA, and they're 725 dollars.

If you ever had any concern whatsoever with balance, changing cranks will be an epic leap in the wrong direction.

Have you done a Google search for a shop around you? There should be a good shop in your area to do the work or have access to a replacement. The shop I deal with doesn't get into cutting cranks like he did over 20 years ago but he works with Pittsburgh Crankshaft located in the city's east end. The one thing to keep in mind have one mail order is the package handles & delivery guys arn't alway gentle with heavy boxes.

Yeah, my local shop quoted 200 bucks for the cutting of the crank, 200 to resize the rods with new bolts (125 for the bolts that afaik can only be purchased from TA performance), and 200 to balance everything with a new flexplate, balancer, and rods. Basically a 800 dollar deal. It's not bad, I was just wondering if I could get away with a "reman" crank, but I guess not as there is a very high chance I'd be worse off. It's all not gonna happen until late summer/fall time anyway, but I'm just getting all the particulars written down for later. Not to mention the other 3,000 I'm gonna dump into more engine mods, rear end, and shocks and springs and suspension bushings. Oh and wheels and tires...... jesus.

$800 is still $200 more than the 455 buick engine

I don't understand why you are fixated on the Buick 350, the car didn't come with that engine and if you want to keep a Buick engine in your car then why not upgrade to the 455 Buick engine. You'd have to put $1,000's into your 350 to even come close to the torque you get with the stock 455.

The original and current goal of my 350 was to have something that had around 300, 350 horsepower in a small package but was still a V8 that was the easiest thing to implant in my regal. Basically just a nice cruiser and daily driver that sounds good and did good burnouts. And, it was and did. Take V6 and metric out, put 350/th350 in. No body does the 350 Buick, or olds, or pontiac. They all go for the 455s. I wanted to be a little different, and that sometimes comes with a price. All the money I've sunk into this motor, and it being my first motor, I want to keep it running for as long as I can. The only way I'm getting rid of this engine is if a rod decided to play peekaboo. I had the chance to buy a 455 then, and one now and I'm still gonna keep plugging away at the 350.

Plus, it's not just 600 bucks for the 455, I'd need belts, hoses, fluids, probably a thicker radiator, exhaust, source motor mounts, transmission mount, a new transmission, its not plug n play here, the 350 was.
