I need to replace the pinion seal in the rear I'm putting in my car. I'm getting conflicting directions on how to re torque it. Some say do a rolling torque before taking it apart, some say you have to reset everything. I have the rear sitting on the floor of my garage so its not in the car yet. What's the easiest way to do it?

slide the axles out and tighten the pinion up until the rotating torque on the pinion nut is 19-22 inch pounds

you can install with an impact and once it's getting tight then check the torque. It would be hard for you to tighten it too much to collapse the spacer any further since that would take over 250 ft lbs. When you have it apart it would be a good idea to check the bearing to see what condition it is in....

and check the sealing surface on flange on the pinion as well to see if a groove has been worn it it which could be the cause of the leak.

Well i just pulled the axles out. I checked the rotating torque before i removed the yoke. It barely registered on the torque wrench.is that normal?

22 inch lbs is only 1.8 foot lbs so if you are using a foot lb torque wrench then it would barely register
