yeah the guy i bought the car from has edelbrock valve covers with a holley carb i didnt understand that...but yeah i kinda think its the carb myself guess ill be picking up a edelbrock

There's your problem right there!

Seriously though, it probably is the carb. I'm partial to good running Q-jets because they aren't as fussy IMO. I've never had good luck with Holley carbs. I'm sure others will beg to differ.
