was it limited slip/posi traction optional for the 85 442? cuz mines non posi, roasts both tires

I believe posi was optional but they did come with the 8.5" rear end though, should still be 3.73 gearing either way. If both wheels spin that sounds like posi to me.

limited slip/posi is the same thing. It just depended on what company it was, to what name they gave it.
American Motors: Twin-Grip
Buick: Positive Traction
Chevrolet/GMC: Positraction
Oldsmobile: Anti-Spin
Pontiac: Safe-T-Track

Yes it's has always been an option since '57.

non posi and roasting both tires? You must be hitting that one just right or somebody has modified it or added a limited slip/posi unit.

If you have a limited slip rear that is only spining one tire your clutches probably need replacing. It cost me about $90 from an online source last time plus fresh fluid plus labor if you want to have a shop do it.

easy enough to find out, take off the cover to see what you have and then you can refill it with fresh lubricant

plus the '87 had all sorts of problems, kick down cable snapped,, before that had to rebuild the carb only two barrels would work, so i was just confused, still the 87 would only pull one wheel peels my 85 doesnt

ok so it is limited slip rpo tag..gt4, g80 correct for 3.73 gears and l/s correct?

the sticker was placed on the car at the factory, unless you have owned the car since new no one knows what changes have been made to the drive line. I don't why people have a problem removing the cover to see what they have and to replace the oil. You probably have no idea what weight it is or how long it's been there.
