I have an 84 Cutlass with the factory rally guages. My tach has been messed up since I bought the car. At an idle it reads 2,000 rpm. It basically reads 2 or 3x what the rpm is. A friend of mine said that there is a 6cyl/8cyl switch on the back of the guage cluster that needs to be flipped. Anybody know if this is true? if not, what might be wrong with my tach?

Thanks for posting that! I am having the same issue with my tach and was thinking it just needed the shorting adapter fixed. However, I like his solution much better as it will be permanent.

wooow... Man I think i love you... I was about to waste money on a autometer tach.. Preciate the information.
