BUILD THREAD Project long time coming

Car has been running good, all my friends have been asking for a ride. They all have a big smile while I'm rowing thru the gears. As do I 😁

That being said, I seem to never be happy with where it's at. I've never been quite happy with the steering. It's always had some play. All new linkages, new balljoints, Jeep steering shaft, even changed the steering gear box for a "newer" used fast ratio unit out of some G body with F41 suspension. Long story short, still has that on center play. I've adjusted it until it's almost undriveable it's so darty. Basically, it's time for a new steering gear box. Since I really want to autocross it, I figured I should get a decent one.

Turn One seemed to be the go to place. Unfortunately, they have zero in stock and won't be getting any more. At all. Ever. Without actually saying it, the email basically said the plant that made the parts was in China, they are now closed, he doesn't have anyone else to make them, and he's not sure what he's going to do. He said they could rebuild mine, but I'm fairly certain it will need hard parts, which drives the price over the cost of a brand new box.
Summit had one in stock and it showed up today. They have very good reviews and I'm looking forward to no longer having the on center looseness.
I've got a million things going on at the moment, so it won't be installed for a week or so.
I also have some other minor fixes for bugs in the works. It seems like it's never ending! LOL

Finally had a few minutes that I wasn't dripping in sweat from work, and a little desire to work on the car. Kind of hard to see but I got the steering gear box installed. Still haven't driven it though 😅 Was chasing a low voltage charging issue. Went to put a new regulator on my junkyard alternator but that was a no go. Ordered a new alternator from DB Electrical. Came in today. Maybe tomorrow I'll throw that on and drive it this weekend when it isn't 97° and 100% humidity.

Tossed the alternator on, definitely better but I'm losing a bunch of voltage from the stud on the back of the alternator to the junction on my inner fender well. Nearly 1.3 volts! Checked resistance between the two points and barely have any. I think I'm going to just run a jumper from the post to the junction point as seen below.

First impressions of the steering box are good. Steering wheel is off center, and I was never quite happy with the alignment so I'll have to get one of those done. Not sure if that will happen between now and winter or if might just do it next spring.

There are a few shows over the next month that I want to attend and with work so busy I haven't had the time or desire to work on the car. Just want to enjoy it a little longer.

Took the car out for a long drive today, dragged the better half along too. 🤣 Put just over 100 miles on it. No hiccups! Burned 1/4 tank of gas approximately.

Only "issue" is my legs were burning up! There has never been a heater bypass valve in the car since I got it. Well damn it was blowing hot air right at my legs during the whole drive. Definitely have to fix that.
