BUILD THREAD Project long time coming

Holes are in a slightly different location IIRC

CTSV and Camaro calipers are identical other than paint & decals
And the fact that there are tons of caddies and Camaros out there that parts should be always available and relatively inexpensive especially for the stopping power they provide.

I know. Like I've said before, I'm getting tired of having to do things multiple times to get the desired outcome. I was really hoping the Blazer 2 piston setup would be enough for me, but its not, so instead I swung to the other extreme and went for the largest ones I could, the Z06 six piston. In all reality I shouldn't ever need those. So I found the Caddy calipers even cheaper than the Amazon link and ordered them yesterday. Supposed to be delivered Sunday. I have talked to the Bigbrakeupgrade guys and went over a few things. I'm going to try to make my own mounting brackets. They don't make a set for that caliper and rotor combination. Only difference is the hat offset height of the rotor according to them. Nice thing about the Vette rotors is you don't have to open up the ID of the center bore like you would have to on the Camaro rotors. We shall see how this all works out. 🤞

Hmmm. I didn't have to open up center bore but I did get hub made by Bigbrakeupgrade so that's probably why. It's been awhile and memory faded

Another thing to consider is our cars weigh much less than say a modern Camaro. I have ridden in modern versions and also CTSV and braking is impressive. Should suck the eyeballs outta us in G Bodies.

Funny you should mention that. I actually looked up rhe curb weight of a 2006 CTSV. It's 3850. So mine is 640 pounds less. That'll help a little.

And completely off topic, I stumbled across an old pic today.

This is not my current Malibu, but the one before it. This one died while I was stationed in Georgia back in '94. Frame split in half down the seam by the left rear tire. Yanked the drive train out of it on Thanksgiving day '94 with the help of a buddy in his dirt driveway and installed it into my current car. You can tell where I got the inspiration for my paint scheme. That was factory original and the only one I've ever seen painted like that.
This pic was taken while home on leave just before I drove to Georgia from NY.

Look at the inspection ready hair.

Calipers and brake pads showed up. Yay!

But.... evidently I didn't do as much research as I thought I did. Thought I was being smart using the Vette rotors instead of the Camaro rotors. My reasoning was that the center bore didn't need to be opened on the Vette rotors and the bolt pattern was correct. Problem is the brake pads are larger than the swept width of the rotor so they overhang. Fudge...

So I have two choices. Use two piston C5 Vette calipers and pads, or Camaro rotors and open up the ID of the bore to fit over the Blazer hub. Really don't want the smaller calipers so looks like I'm ordering Camaro rotors.

In other news I made a test caliper adapter bracket at work today. Made it out of some scrap 1/2" PVC we had around. I figured this way if I need to change any dimensions, I'm not wasting 1/2" steel.
