Just a real quick update on tonight’s progress since I’m on here responding to posts anyways, in cleaning up the disaster after Sunday’s rip and tear session, I found the one really bad piece that required repairing this door.

It’s supposed to be flat and straight along the bottom, but as you can see a lot of that material simply corroded away.

And, despite getting a late start on things tonight, I got a lot (and the hardest areas to weld and grind) done.

Sometimes when I get in the zone and everything’s coming together, there’s no stopping me. Tonight was extremely successful, and I like to think I rose to the occasion given the challenge.

The rest of what’s left to weld out is all on a long flat section, so that should be no problem whatsoever as well. Should be very close to, if not done this part of the repair by the end of tomorrow night.

Awesome. From what I have seen from G body doors, that is a nice one to start with and now looks perfect.

Does the last photo show the piece that wraps around at the bottom of the door Donovan? Just curious on how you did that piece. Did you weld it in right along the bottom edge of the door, or did you carry it around into the lower outer doorskin?

Jeff, the last photo shows the back half of the door, that half is still factory hemmed. Haven’t done or changed anything there. The front half on the other hand, has the hemmed section removed for the inner structure repair. I literally just cut through the hem at the halfway point and ground back the door edge so that I could remove the front half of the hem.

The reinstallation of the hem on the front half of the door and tyeing in to the outer skin hasn’t been done yet, that’s what tonight’s project is going to incorporate. I have one bad section of the outer skin just above the repaired area that I’m going to cut out and replace at the same time. That way I can kill 2 birds with one stone.
It’ll all make more sense in the next update I do, I promise.
