Now I just hope I can find 10 minutes in the right end of town tomorrow between my customers to grab the putty.
Otherwise it’s gonna be a very boring weekend.

Well Donovan it took me 2 weeks but i read every damn page of this thread.
As a lurker that doesn't own a g body yet you have really made me rethink it. This is both the most beautiful and horrifying restoration i have ever witnessed, your a complete mad man. I dont know how to weld, never done any body work. Hell i dont even have a garage! You may have saved me from a bad idea. Keep up the great work i cant wait to see it finished.
Anyone considering getting a g body should have to read this thread in its entirety before they make the decision to buy one.
I can tell you one thing for sure. I wont be fooled by the "no rust" for sale add. every g body for sale in washington is "rust free"

Don't get discouraged. Nice cars are still out there. You just have too pay a little more for them. Now you know what to look out for!

Thank you for the kind words, but it was also kind of disheartening to read your comment. This is a very rewarding hobby, and despite their shortcomings, G bodies are very enjoyable cars to own. Please don’t let the obstacles that I’ve had to overcome on this particular build negatively influence your decision to get one. It was a decision that I made all on my own to fix and save this one, and I own it 100%. Not everybody starts out (or has to start out with) one that was as rough as this.

I’ve been following your “in search of a G body” thread, and the guys have given you some solid advice to not be in a rush to get one. Bide your time, and get what you really want. Don’t let the scammers and hacks pass their junk onto you. Do your due diligence and vet them thoroughly, the guys have already told you what to watch out for.

Perseverance and patience will eventually pay off, I promise. You may have to pass over 25, 50, heck, even 100 cars to find the right one, but I assure you, they’re still out there. And you WILL find it if you really want.

And we hope you will keep it forever.

If i get one or not, either way you have saved me from most likely getting the wrong one.

Well, it was a day.

A day of frustration, setbacks, bad product, time wasted getting supplies. A day of long hours, burning the midnight oil, hard work, and sweat loss.
But ultimately, i guess it was a successful day.

The door is finally 100% straight and blocked out down to 120. But it didn’t go down without one heck of a fight. I think the floor pretty much tells the tale.

After I dig out the handle and lock recesses, it’ll be ready for a couple coats of epoxy and high build primer.
But that’s for another time. I’m beat.

D.

Think about it, had challenged yourself with the ORIGINAL door...what would you estimate your progress to be at this point? Put it another way, are you glad you went with the time saver choice? 🙂 I'm guesstimating you probably saved 2 or 3 days worth of work (or more) doing this "easy" door.
