A suggestion for those not wanting to permanently seal the vapor barrier- Use that gooey, thin 3M black butyl strips on the barrier to stick it to the door. It might be easier to remove if you ever have to.

That’s precisely the stuff I wanted to avoid. The stuff is terrible, makes a helluva mess. Useful for removal, maybe, but that’s offset by the mess it makes when you have to work around it.
That’s why I chose to use silicone, it’s cheap, dries completely, and can easily be removed and redone if needed.

If you pull the butyl then cut it with a razor it makes less of a mess, but it still sucks.

I did the moisture barrier (I believe it was 6mm from Lowes) & secured it w/some HVAC foil tape. I pulled the door panels off @ some point after (weeks/month?) to replace the door mirrors & the foil tape seemed to be fine. My buddy (GM trim tech) said to use the butyl-tape stuff as well. I was able to get the foil HVAC tape @ Lowes when I got plastic film so I tried it figuring it would be easy enough to remove if necessary.

Actually I did not. I got a big roll of it for free from a coworker when he was purging his garage. I knew immediately that I’d have uses for it. 😁
