I know they said to use solid lifter but are the height where the pushrod sits the same as hydraulic or even brand to brand, I used my lifter that's actually being used with valve checking springs, they are light pressure springs so the lifter will not collapse while checking, I set mine at zero preload then adjusted the adjustable pushrod to desired length, then added .030" to the length to accommodate lifter preload this is how Howard cams instructs it to be done, with their roller lifter that I used. but it called for .030 to .050 preload, which is approx. half a turn on my rocker nuts. I feel this is the best way of doing it, its worked for me for years but I'm sure some one will correct me lol!

Will Comp Cams 7645-16 work?
If 7.850" is the measurement you came up with and if you are running guideplates that are 5/16" then those should work fine.

If you got 7.850 I would ALMOST bet that a stock pushrod of 7.800 is all you need.

So will different roller rockers and bigger studs change the pushrods lengths,I'm using comp cams retro fit hyd roller lifters and comp cams recommended 7.300" pushrods that are to short and I'm getting 7.850" for pushrods length?

If its a roller cam, I would check again. I've seen 7.1-7.2 be common for a hydraulic roller with retro rollers. Longer than stock does not seem right to me on a stockish type build.

Yeah it's a roller cam I have always used 7.300 pushrods i was thinking stock style pushrods are way to long maybe I have the wrong roller lifters I just ordered a comp cams 853-2 and will see what that lifter does with the measurement

I hate to ask 3 pages in, but how are your checking?

This method works everytime. You do not need a solid lifter, but checking springs are handy.
