Question about dropping the oil pan

so where are you at with this car ???

Good question George.
I just put a new pan gasket and a new deep oil pan on it. I was able to jack the motor up in the car.

I found a stripped bolt hole at the rear left corner so I need to come up with a plan to snug that up.
Maybe just a longer bolt will find some threads.

I still need to figure out my exhaust as my dual exhaust hits my transmission crossmember so I don't have that buttoned up yet. I bought a car trailer so I can take it to the exhaust shop and have them put some bends in the exhaust to cure that problem.

Somewhere in there I need to break in the cam. If I break it in with open headers I need some ear plugs.

A friend of mine has organized a dyno day in Newmarket on the 11th. I don't think I'm going to make it.
I only get to spend a couple of hours a week on it right now.

The car trailer will come in handy to get the cut up car out of my driveway. LOL>

That is one thing that I am excited about ... when I get around to breaking my engine/camshaft in, my exhaust is already on the car and bolted up. I hate hearing a car, for the first time, with open headers. They do not do it any justice 8)

When I found the oil leak I was going to break in the car. I had to shut it down but in the 2 minutes it was running it built quite a crowd. Everyone thought it sounded amazing. I couldn't even shout across the engine to my neighbor. I'm a loud guy and at 3000 rpms you couldn't hear me no matter how loud I shouted. Just insane inside a garage. My ears are ringing now just thinking about it.

Are you sure it's stripped, and you are using the correct size bolt in it? The four corner bolts on the SBC are 5/16-18 while the other 14 are 1/4-20 thread.

You can also possibly sneak a longer bolt with a nut in there(2 piece rear seal engines), but it'll be tough with the trans and flywheel/flexplate in the way.

Worst case scenario drill and tap for larger bolt, or drill and install heli-coil.

I'm sure it's stripped.
The bolt I took out would just spin and the bolt I tried to put in spins as well.
I am using the correct size bolt. 5/16-18. I have 3 different sets plus studs.
I have a tap to see how far the threads go in. The tap actually fits in a 1/4" socket extension so I can reach up into that tight spot with it. I should be able to put the other end of the socket extension in my tap handle.
I'm hoping I find some good threads further in but???? who knows.
If I don't find any better threads further in I will have to go with the drill and tap larger or helicoil.

That kind of logic works for me, but not usually my otherwise supportive wife because if I come home with yet another trailer I better be able to sleep in it

Really sucks that you are having so many issues. I know it sounds a little redneck but I has seen guys get the cheap exhaust flex pipe from crappy tire and clamp a couple of mufflers on so you can break in the camshaft and drive the car a little until you can get it to the exhaust shop. The flex pipe will help you get around your crossmember and give you an idea of what bends are needed too.

Good luck !

That's funny.

The b*tch is the exhaust is awesome. True dual 2.5" mandrel bent and new from the headers back but the previous transmission was a TH350 so the crossmember was in a different place.
With my 200-4R both the crossmember and the exhaust want to be in the same place.

I need to buy a pickup truck now to pull this trailer.
My minivan pulls it fine until I put a car on it.

LOL looking for a truck to pull the trailer to pull the dead car to the wreckers.

So is it just the crossmember that's in the way ? When I did the swap the 200r was appx the same size as the 350c I had, just the mounting pad was different.

I will also use the trailer to get the good car to and from Cayuga.
I have a feeling I am going to break stuff.
They are the same size now that I think about it because they use the same driveshaft.
Just the crossmember is further back with the 200.
Also, the old crossmember was custom notched to go around this exhaust.

I'm still laughing at your comment about how you better be able to sleep in it if you bring another trailer home.

Any progress on your rear seat back?
