After steadily rising prices of R-134a for several years, I now see it dirt cheap. What gives? And are they replacing it with R-1234yf or not? I read that although the automakers are ready to go, the chemical plants are not geared up to produce it in quantity. What I do know is that I will be buying several 30lb cans of R-134a while it is cheap and available.

Hey Steve, I really missed the boat when R-12 was outlawed. I wasn't fluent in HVAC at the time, but now that I know what I'm doing (kinda) I want a supply for the future.

I havn't had my AC hooked up for the last couple of years cause I was focused on other needs of the car but this year I'll get the lines in and get it working. I wasn't thinking about it yet tho so it was good that you posted that.

Great idea. A mechanic friend of mine said the new stuff is going to be about 6 times more expensive to buy

Hmm, haven't seen the price come down here yet. Hopefully soon as I need some.

Bonnewagon, i'm curious, what can you get a 30lb for right now?

Jrm81bu, my guy can get it for $130.00 a 30lb can. Last year I got it at Coolgas.com, in Texas for $225 delivered when it was going for $280 by me. Same place is now $169.00 delivered. BIG price drop.
