OLDS Radiator choices for Olds G

When the flare nut is screwed all the way in, the tubing flare ALMOST seats all the way, but not quite. It is still not clamped against the inverted flare well enough. Even with the nut all the way tight, the tubing will still move, albeit with some binding. I'll get a video of me tightening a piece of flare tubing/nut that I have lying around (cut from some fubar'ed lines) and I'll demonstrate what I mean.

Here is my Champion, the measurement is to the top of the flare and this had no issues sealing with the stock trans lines.

But those same trans lines wouldn't seal on my new Griffen radiator even after confirming they were tight after seeing a leak after firing it up.
I considered cutting and reflaring the lines if I could find some longer tube nuts but I found some brass flare adapters in my garage and they solved the issue'

I'll get a depth measurement after work tomorrow (my digital calipers are on my desk at work).

Mine and my sons are exactly as 565 is indicating. I put the same inverted flare adapters in that he’s using and it works fabulously.

I think, repeat think, you might be using the wrong fittings.

If the stock lines with stock fittings are not the right ones, then what are?

The stock lines are correct, the fitting size on the radiator is for a 5/16" inverted flare. That is a 1/2"-20 threads per inch. The factory lines are 1/4" and the threads on that inverted flare fitting is 7/16" -24 threads per inch. Napa will have that adapter most likely.

I have now checked the Modine 951 against the Champion. They are both the same size and threads for the trans lines. However, the 951 depth is correct for stock lines. The Champion is deeper and WILL NOT WORK WITH STOCK LINES.

Looks like I am using the 951 until I can get a decent higher capacity radiator. I don't want an aux cooler.
Or, maybe I should just grind down the Champion to get rid of an 1/8" of material...😡

You need a tall/extended fitting.

Two things, 1st use whatever you want; 2nd sandals with socks - that a fashion statement that I can’t make.

🤣 It's Florida! But we're having a bit of a cold spell. It's 55° right now, but I refuse to let go of summer, hence my sandals I wear all year. HAHA!
Any links to the correct tall/extended fitting?

Is the upper trans line just as deep as the lower?
It appears there is enough material on the Champion to just grind off .1285 to give it matching depth to your Modine but make sure it is sealed good first before attempting.
I also think you could still use some adapters that would match up to your radiator threads and the inverted flare on your lines.
