Ever smashed an exhaust pipe? Yup same concept. And in order to product the heat and airflow the engine has to move it first. Once the turbo spools it effectively becomes a cork in the exhaust.

But yeah compared to each other at a given boost level(let's say 10-11 psi like my dd) parasitic loss is almost equal. Now on a supercharger the loss comes at a lower rpm as does the boost

I repair airliner engine turbine parts for a living. Aircraft turbines are some of the most efficient air compressors in the world. These engines make nearly 100,000 lbs of thrust and yet over 80% of their power is used to compress the air used for combustion. That basically means they could make about 400,000 lbs of thrust if they didn't have to waste all of their energy compressing air.

Power from superchargers come in right at idle because they're driven by the crank.

I like the knowledge coming from this thread, and have been looking at turbo tech for an Olds small block.

And what do you think drives the exhaust running the turbo? Yup the crank. Again no such thing as free hp

Ive read actually comparisons and parasitic loss is roughly the same

I'm not disputing the loss of HP from both power adders...just that the power from an SC comes in at idle because of the direct connection to the crank from a belt...where the turbo needs higher velocities of exhaust gases to spool up, with power coming in at a higher RPM.
