Boost levels dont always equal HP ....my last motor made between 14-16 psi yet would have been stomped by my current motor making 10 psi.....both before 2000
That is true, in different motors, but in the same motor, 22 psi is going to make more HP than 14-16 psi if it has the fuel to support it, especially if it makes 22 psi from 2500 RPM to 5200 RPM as the area under the curve is way more.
The Stock D5 convertor in a TR stalls at about 2400 RPM. The stock turbo spools at 2200 RPM. Stomp the gas and and it leaves the line at to 7-10 PSI and is at 22 psi in just a fraction of a second. Near stock TR's are deadly in a Pro tree race: Stage, give it a little boost, Flash. stomp, go.
Stock turbo, stock injector, stock intercooler, 100% untouched stock longblock, stock trans, stock gear full weight TR's can run 11.9@112 with a chip, K&N, fuel pump, race gas and traction. I went 12.2's@110 in mine with a lot still on the table (slick track, 1.8 60 foot and tires that were 2" too short).
If 3.8L's TR's were supercharged, maybe they could have dipped into mid 13's near stock? maybe?
