How much clearance will I actually have depth-wise for the speaker after the adapters are installed? The books say the factory depth with 4x10s is 3.5"s. I have heard there are clearance issues from trunk torsion rods right?

i bought the 6x9 kit...biggest waste of money ever...

after i put the kit in I tried putting an audiopipe 6x9 speaker in and didn't clear with about an inch or two too big

I didn't want to cut anything so I just took the speakers back and traded them for some nice 4x10's

but I'm still stuck with these 6x9 kits

Every pair of 6x9's I have tried have worked with my adaptor kits but some were tight. There are some oversize magnets out there (I believe just for looks because they could just use stronger magnet material).

Search the forums, there have been many posts about this.

As mentioned it all depends on the speaker you use and the magnet size. Pioneer 6x9's fit my '87 however they did rub slightly on the torsion bars.

You just need to find the right speaker.

Any pics? I have a few speakers in particular, I just don't want to deal with the whole trail and error...

Why not just use a new set of 4x10s? There are a few types of sets for sale on evay? I can't believe that the 6x9's are that much better?

The 6x9's have a LOT more bass than the 4x10's ever thought about having. However, if you run a small sub or only have them on for background noise then the 4x10's are just fine for that. It just depends what you are going for.

You can not push a 4x10 as much as a 6x9. The general shape of the speaker just make it terrible for sound production beyond a stock sound system.

You also have a much larger selection of 6x9's than 4x10's.

Unfortunately no. That was years and years ago that I had those.

I don't run any speakers in the rear deck any longer. I've put everything in the door panels.
