what if you only have a VIn and no rpo codes in glovebox or underhood or inside doorsill?
Can i still figure out what my rearend has by numbers on the axle itself or something

Local guy I came across claimed to have a posi unit 8.5 for a g-body he is selling... finally got a picture of it.. immediately wanted to punch myself for being so optimistic that it was gonna be what he claimed.... unfortunately not, from what I can tell this is another 7.5. Correct me if Im wrong.

Correct, 7.5".
But i think your missing the point. It identifies as a 8.5".
