I have recently learned that my salon has 2.29 rear end gears. I want to put wither 342's or 373's in it. I saw somewhere that a company makes 342's that fit on a 2 series carrier? is this true? also, how loud are they and how expensive are they?

Just havent got to that part of the project yet.........

For a street car with little to no track time, I would go with 3.23 or 3.42 gears. Go to Ebay or post here for the gears with a carrier and replace gear and carrier. I wouldnt spend the extra mony for gears to fit a two series carrier unless It is a posi.

i'd go with a detroit truetrac, it's maintenance free but gives you the benefits of a posi unit. they're around 400 bucks which is a pretty good price for the budget oriented person. a gear set from summit is 160 bucks. new axles are 260 for a pair and an install kit from basic to total overhaul with everything ranges from 18 to 180 bucks depending on what you need.

you can get a gear set for series 2 or series 3 carriers but i'd go with a series 3 since you're changing gears. with a non OD transmission i probably wouldnt go higher than a 3.23 gear but with OD i'd go with a 3.42 or 3.73 depending how much get up and go you want the car to have. i plan on using 3.73 gears with a 2004R at some point in the future.
