rear end gear ratios for 87 cutlass

so what do you guys recomed for my friends 87 supreme brougham with the 307... like a set of 3:03's? hes looking for a little gut off the line but be able to keep it a highway driveable car ... its stock motor wise... its just a real pig off the line
 
I'd look for a GU4 optioned 231/3 speed car. That would give you a 3.23 axle ratio and a huge improvement in acceleration without a big drop in fuel economy. I paid $50 for the whole rear axle and it's the best bang for the buck I got for that kind of money. Mine had the 2.41 axle, but going to the 3.23 actually improved fuel economy around town.
