What's some good rear end gears for a daily driver. I have a 85 regal with 2.41 gears that's stock. I'm putting in a chevy 355 with 360 hp & 375 tq. I also have a th350 & th400 trans. What would be the better trans for highway driving? I know a lot of you are going to say the th350. But I don't won't to drive in the high rpm's with the th350 after I change the gears. Looking at 2.73 or 3.08 gears. Trying to have a little good mpg. 8)

I have the stock 2.29s in my Monte with a 350 and 4L60 out of a Carpice cop car. It cruises at 70 no problem and gets about 15 mpg between highway and city driving.

I have 3.08 and in 4th (1 to 1) at 75 mph I'm reving 3200. The tire size I have is 245-50-16. Both transmissions you have have a 1 to 1 3rd gear so there is no difference between them on the highway. You'd be reving about 10% higher than what I posted causee of the slippage in the transmission. I have a stick in mine

If yoi are stuck with an old three the 3.08 is a good compramise gear decent acceleration decent mileage. If you can find afford a 200-4r you can use a 3.73 for better acceleration & better mileage with the final drove ratio of 2.49 plus no slip from the lock up converter.
