Yea pionner and kenwood are the only two decent brands that ive seen that have 4x10s available and like I said I was more impressed with the kenwoods. The swap meet in stafford? I was supposed to go up there but my buddy backed out and I really didn't need to spend any more money on my car this month anyway. Then I went furniture shopping with the wife instead and spent 1100 bucks on a couch and a loveseat... woulda been better off at the swap meet.

yup stafford, 2 hours away and i bought a 5 dollar mirrior to replace my passenger side on the monte.im kickin my self alittle for not picking up the 4 speed bell housing and the non a/c heater box assembly with most of the controls, 100 bucks a pop. things ive always looked for and wanted but wont go with what im plans on my car. im doin some looking around right now, online for speakers, and i noticed kenwood also make some 3.5s so maybe ill run em all the way around, anything will sound clear than what i have probably. im not big speaker guy, but i do like to crank my tunes now and then.

Ok.................I was sold on your idea..Heck, I was thinking this might just work. I was gonna offer to have you build me one too 🙂, That being said...I gues I'll just go with the 6X9 adaptors

i was kinda shocked i couldnt make it work, but honestly after buying the 6x9s i couldnt find a single spot in the whole car where i could mount them without cutting into somthing, and in the rear deck im not even sure how the adaptors really work. 4x10s litterly just fit up in there, the 6x9s will not even come close to properly fitting into that area. those adaptors must bring it down about an inch to 2 inchs, and sorta swing it back alittle. as far as going through the top of the package tray, i dont see how thhat would really ever even work, cause the mounting area of the speaker would hit the window, and the rear seat. maybe im wrong but i wasnt and aint cutting into anything like that. i thought about putting them into the wid rear piller trim but in my opinion it would look hacked, and then there was the side panels in the rear i thought about, didnt like the amount cutting that wouuld require either. iim sure theres ways to do it, but iits not for me. ive become very fond of trying to keep things clean and semi factory looking in certain areas, i dont know i have had to many things gor wrong when things get cut up and modified, so brainstormed what i thought would be brilliant actually woke up that morning and it instantly popped into my head, but i just cant see it working and being up to snuff for me.

Its a really tight fit with the adapters, the bottom of my speakers hit the trunk rods but its tight enough that it actually keeps anything from rattling. I wouldnt put them in those little quarter panels either as they would probably sound worse than stock speakers there. The trunk kinda acts as a box for the speakers and helps produce bass. I went to school with a kid... idiot that has a early 90s cavalier that had factory 6x9s and he cut into those panels and put the speakers there. it looked hack and even if he had done a clean job it still sounded worse than the blown out stockers in the factory location.

Actually I almost forgot Im pretty sure memphis makes a nice 4x10 as well and I know they make 3.5s. I have there 6.5s and 6x9s in our beater 95 grand am with an old 50x4 alpine deck and it just jams theres no need for a sub unless you want to rattle trim pieces off and the highs are crystal clear too. The kenwoods might thump a little more but I think the memphis is a better all around speaker.

I guess we'll have to deal with the 4x10's................ Heck with the HP in my motor, It aint built for tunes anyways 🙂 LOL

514hp, i wish i could say that, but this is my daily driver that does everything from haul my fiance and son around to hauling small amounts of tools for side jobs to cruising on weekends and its my project so im just tryin to keep up on it to keep it around till i can really dig into it one day. ill have to look into those memphis speakers. as far as those rear side panels go im sure they would have rattled like crazy in there thinking about it now, the inner structure of the quarter would have hav to be cut and it probably would have sounded tinny almost i could imagine.

I'm going to swap in a set of a kicker 6x9's here in the next couple weeks w/ adapters, I've got Kicker 4x10's now and they don't sound bad, but I'd like a little more bass for the people in back... even though the L7 in the trunk provides most of it.. I measured everything up and it seems that it should all fit, I just need to go get a set of a 6x9's now..

I am gatherring it was a one year only thing, but if you can locate an 81 .... you can lose the torsion springs. Trunk on the Calais has 2 factory hydraulic cylinders (sort of like a hatchback) - it's much cleaner.
