I recently put a new windshield in my 1982 El Camino and the rearview mirror mount that came preinstalled on the WS is too big for my factory rearview mirror. Any idea if GM changed mirrors at some point or what mirror I should use? The mount seems too big for my mirror to slide onto. Don't really want to remove the mount and try to glue my old one on and have issues with it sticking.

The windshields in our cars were used into the 90's for other vehicles so the mirror mount is for a later model mirror, new ones are relatively inexpensive or hit a junkyard, just measure the size of the mount to match it.

Take your car to an auto glass shop and have them change out the tab for you. If you do it and break something, then it's yours. They probably have done it a thousand times.

For my 85' Regal i picked up a new day/night mirror for around $15 at the local autostore or you could also go with a used factory version with map lights etc from a later model vehicle.
