So I finally made it down to the intake all the bolts are removed carb. Removed and everything. The intake is filthy and im going to thoroughly clean it up and I was wondering if I could just use decreased and water on the whole thing or are there areas that I do not need to get wet like under the carb.

You're talking about after you take it off, right? If so, that should be fine, just clean it all out with some carb cleaner and get everything out of there. Make sure that you done get any gunk in the head intake passages, you might want to stuff some shop towels in there before cleaning out that area.

Looking good, keep at it!

I finally got back to working on the car this morning and got the intake off. And boy was that sucker dirty lol I caught hell trying to clean it up. Also as I was taking the intake off I broke something that was screwed into the back of the intake on the opposite side of the intake as the heater valve. It had to nipple on it but nothing connected to it so I guess I wont need it.

I took the gasket off and now im cleaning up so I can put the new gasket on. How much do I actually have to clean because im using this gasket scraper and nothing is really coming off.

Well if you don't clean your surface up to bare metal, then your gasket wont seal like it should.

Damn lol im catching hell trying to clean it up. This is the hardest part of changing this gasket thus far. I thought this would be the easy part.

Does anybody have some tips on cleaning the gasket mating surfaces because I got most of it clean but the spots around the water jackets is not really coming off.

I usually scrape it off, then clean up the residue with Brake Parts Cleaner. Careful with it though...don't want to get it on anything else. Spray a towel with a little and start rubbing. It should get the rest off. You want it perfectly clean or your gasket won't seal right.
