Replacing Intake Manifold Gasket???

A tap can be used to clean the bolt holes. A small "J" hooked pick can be used to clean any smooth holes. To clean the bolts you can run them over a wire wheel

You may want to make sure the bolts screw into the threads before placing the manifold back on. Make sure everything is as clean and as smooth as possbile. Use a vacuum to suck out any debris, brake cleaner to clean everything, and just clean in general. Did I mention to keep things clean? This is one of the most important parts; take a shortcut here and you will be doing this over. Maybe not right away, but soon.

soooooo..any update?

Lol right now I still have to clean the bolts and holes. I may have to get some more bolts because the one that wouldn't go in was stripped and a piece of the screw was stuck in the hole. But I haven't worked on it lately I was busy buying my 350 olds and putting it on the stand and working. But now im going to get back to work on the intake so I can put it back together.

So now I got the intake back on and have to torque the bolts done. I screw them all in by hand first then I tried to torque them but I don't know how to use this torque wrench now. I have a craftsman torque wrench I thought it was supposed to click when it gets the bolt to the torque you set it to but it is clicking the whole time you turn it. So for now I tightened the bolts as tight as I could with a 3/8 rachet but that might not be enough there supposed to be torques to 40 ft/lbs. Need help lol

Don't need to kill it, but make sure you tighten them in the proper order.

Well depending on how strong you are, you may have have them tighter than 40 ft/lb. Thats not really a lot of torque. But you should set the torque wrench to 40 ft/lbs, and then turn it untill it clicks. You don't have to really yank on it. Just pull around on it untill it clicks. Start with the middle bolts, and work your way out. If you think your torque wrench is broken just buy the cheap $30 you sell at your store.

Scratch my last post I went back this morning and loosened the bolts up again and gave it another try. Turns out that I needed to support the head of the rachet more and this time it worked. The only bolt that I couldn't get to was the one by the distributor on the drivers side. Only thing I could fit in there was the tiny 1/4 rachet. I used that and tightened it as much as I could.
