Start with the middle bolts, and work your way out.

This is incorrect. You start at the corners and work your way into the middle.

Yeah this is exactly how I did it that's the same picture that was in my chilton book.

outside in is a horrible way to go, ive seen cracked intakes because of it and if u think about it, it makes no sence, why get the outside tight before the middle? when the two meet there, the middle of the intake is now understress.work your way out from the inside and it all lays down smooth. i think maybe they changed that picture over the years because i no longer see any stating to go outside in. even with the lsx motors, its inside out

You may want to talk to the Oldsmobile engineers who recomend outside in on the Oldsmobile engines they designed. There's obviously a reason for it. Why deviate from that just because a non-Oldsmibile doesn't do it like that?

the thing is that when that motor was made back then, they couldnt see the advancements of the future, these days its known that starting from the outside in can damage the manifold. thats why todays manuals show that.

Well I finally got her put back together and while i was at it i replaced the radiator. So then I decided to run this radiator flush. It took a little while to get the engine started again since it sat since like november or december but I played with the throttle linkage on the carb and gave her enough gas to finally start. So i didnt see the intake leak so im hoping i fixed it right. But i noticed the heater core leaking  I think i broke it when i took off the heater hose that goes to the water pump because i bent the heater core tube trying to take it off and it looked like it was leaking right where the tube connects to the heater core. so i have to fix that. and also i didnt install the bottom transmission line into the radiator right because i was leaking transmission fluid from there  but oh well it was nice to get her back running again but now i have too install that transmission line right and I may have to install a heater core for the first time lol Im so not looking forward to that.

Well at least you will have an all new cooling system now.

yeah lol but now this bottom transmission is being a pain in the *ss to get into the radiator i cant get it to tread in. It looked like the first time it wasnt straight so thats why it leaked but now that im trying to put it in straight it wont go in.

Well I fixed the trans fluid leak and now im wondering how hard is it to change a heater core?
