No need to remove the motor, unless you were already planning on doing some other work with it out...
If you've got access to a lift, getting the oil pan in and out isn't that bad of a job at all.
A one-piece pan gasket makes it a snap.
I did it a couple times when my 442 had a SBC in it.
I crew on a race car so it's no big deal to snag an engine out, it take me about 2 hours to have mine sitting on a engine stand..I just put this engine in last summer but I cheaped out with a chinese pan so I'll take the engine out and clean it up and change the pan...plus I'm lazy and I hate having to work around things when I don't have to and taking out an engine is easy....I was thinking about putting a roller cam in it but I have some other mods I want to do to the car so I might wait to next year.
