RIP Eddie Van Halen

I saw them at Nassau Coliseum in 1991. My ears still hurt! An amazing guitarist. Damn shame to lose him like that.

I only saw them once, about 5 years ago at a shed (outdoor amphitheater) with DLR fronting and Wolfgang on base. Good show! Too much good time was had on my part.

Even as an old guy he was strong as hell and kicked butt. Just ignore DLR and enjoy Eddie........................................................................

Saw him in 1986, I believe, in Portland, ME. Twice during the show he started playing a song and drifted into solos of different songs from Santana, Hendrix, Jimmy Page, for about 10-15 minutes both times. Absolutely beautiful solos. Will remember it forever. Also the fat bearded guys from Canada that opened up for Van Halen .. BTO. One of the best shows from start to finish. Oh, to be 19 again and in front of VH and BTO.

WOW! I'm just hearing of this now on this Forum. I was driving home from work, but was on the phone most of the trip home. Like Jared, I was listening to the Classic Rock station here in Houston, and heard " I Can't Wait" just before I arrived home. I was thinking to myself... man, I haven't heard this song in a while... Now, I know why. I have seen them in all their lineups. My 1st concert was Sammy Hagar in 1981, when he was still beating up red Trans Ams on stage. I saw the original Van Halen at the old Summit here in Houston in 1984. They sold out 3 shows in a row. I saw them on the 1st night, and then again on the 3rd night. I also saw David Lee Roth when he went solo on the Yankee Rose tour. I then saw Van Halen again on the OU812 Tour, when Sammy joined the band. I still have a few of the original VH vinyl albums. In the 90's when Sport Trucks were all the craze, and I remember Eddies 1994 Chevy that was painted like his Flying V guitar. I still have the Sport Truck magazine with the feature write up about his truck. In my opinion, Eddie was, and always will be a top 5 guitarist. IIRC, he never had a lesson, and invented the "tap" method of playing. You will be missed Eddie!!

For me it started with my brothers Vinyl of Diver Down I copied to cassette. It was chock full of Excellent covers and definitely on my Top 10 albums of all time. Then 1984 Blew it up. I was only 13 at the time but listening to all the tributes today while digging holes really brought me back to those days when life was simpler.

RIP, thx for all the tunes !!

Happy Trails to you.... until we meet again. Happy trails to you... keep smiling until then...
