Re: Project GNX-SS Build Thread V 2.0 The Rebirth with PICS***

Project GNX-SS V. 2.0 has begun.
A beautiful afternoon in Central Kentucky yielded itself to the first stage of the interior transformation
and modifications. As you can see in the pics, I found a nasty surprise lurking under the carpet. A nice piece of
sheet metal laying on top of a gigantic hole beneath the pedals. Redneck engineering at its best. I also found a shop rag
stuffed into the hole that the cruise control options went thru the firewall which was the reason that the floor rotted in the
first damn place due to a huge water leak thru said hole. So, I got out the angle grinder and got rid of the cancer and prepped it for
a patch panel. The rest of the floor actually looked great, so I cleaned it up with the shop vac and sprayed two to three coats of rustoleum
black over the surface. I will probably undercoat the floor prior to installing new carpet. I also removed all the seats and all the seat belts.
So, as soon as the patch panel gets put in, Ill begin design of the console. The first pic is just a reminder to those of what the car looks like in its
current configuration or the baseline look. Let the fun begin!!

Pulled the seats and carpet and found this:

Re: Project GNX-SS Build Thread V 2.0 The Rebirth

Just a little update, havent forgotten about this ride. Just that time of year in the bluegrass, where some things take a back burner to the weather. May acquire some items over the winter for it, but most likely it will be March before any major work gets going on the road race build.

Re: Project GNX-SS Build Thread V 2.0 The Rebirth

Quick update on recent purchase for the Road Race Regal Project. Bought a Kirkey Aluminum 20 degree layback seat with black cloth cover and the Kirkey aluminum mounting brackets. Going to pull the passenger side seat bracket and slider assembly off and modify it to accomendate the kirkey brackets/seat assembly. Ill have some pics of the seat up at the first of the week, havent been home a lot recently to get a pic. More parts will be purchased shortly included a roll cage and fuel system components.

Re: Road Race Regal Project

Nice!! Always wondered if those seats were comfortable...

You get the floor fixed up yet??

Re: Road Race Regal Project

My car looks almost like yours except for the wheel flares, which after looking at your car I am now going to get. I had the same floorboard rot. Did your car have algae growing on it too?

Re: Road Race Regal Project

Havent gotten the floor fixed yet, been too cold to mess with it, do have the sheet metal ready to go for it and the spare tire well removal as well. As far as algae growing, no didnt have that. Your car is close to mine anakputa, just I didnt have the vinyl top to contend with on this car and Im running 17 inch Coy C5 wheels. The fender flares are a pain in the *ss to install correctly and cost around $435 a set. You can get them from http://www.kirbanperformance.com, great company, deal with them all the time.

Re: Road Race Regal Project ****NEW PICS 1/25/10****

Just a quick update with some seat pictures. Seat in these pictures is a Kirkey Aluminum
20 degree layback seat with Kirkey aluminum mounting brackets. I made an adapter plate out of 3/16
inch aluminum to mount the seat/kirkey bracket assembly onto the passenger side OEM seat slider/bracket
assembly. I mocked these up with a half inch plastic spacer on the bolts that joined the two separate assemblies
and am going to have to fabricate some solid steel spacers to replace these, but for now, its just a mock up. May even have to
cut and relocated the stock bracket mounting tabs to work, but as you can see, I have successfully mated a Kirkey seat, with a stock OEM
slider/bracket assembly. Wasn't too bad, just a little math involved. Of course the brackets will be painted black when removed
for the steel spacers.
