I hope you arent using the painted spark plugs. It may have trouble starting.

geez guys.. lol Ok whats in it, I posted the link to my fquick but I will write it all out anyway.
Small block chevy 350ci,
Edelbrach performer intake,
Edelbrach carburetor,
Vortech heads,
Double roller timing chain,
Msd wires,
Chrome valve covers,
Chrome timing chain cover,
Chrome oil pan,
New oil, fuel, and water pumps,
New distributor cap
Chrome fan (yet to be put on)

and I am re-rebuilding this motor it was very obvios that the previous owner redid alotta stuff, so Idk about a bore and cam. it could be, but it probally isnt, and yes I have fresh sparks too. and yes I know there is not gaskets on the intake as of right now, but it is sitting next to the motor, I just gotta buy some more silicone.
I think I "may" have a 400 transmission but idk what kinda shape its in!

You could drive the car to a shop, take the heads off and have them stick a micrometer on it to find out, if you wanted.

Do you know it's a 400? Post some pics and some guys on here will tell you if it's good. If you're lookin at the transmission from where the engine hooks up to it, on the outside of it on the left side there will be threads like a bolt sticking out of it - that's a turbo 250 or 350. The 400 doesn't have the threaded bolt sticking out/down.

how many carb spacers are you planning on running?

442: if you go to compcams website and search around you can download camquest6 for free. this will help with cam selection. and you can click on "port flow" to input the correct numbers and valve sizes. if nothing else it's alot of fun playing with different combos.

Excellent, thanks.

Malibu: If you end up not having a 400, or for some reason it's too expensive to rebuild, check out a th350. It'll give you a bit quicker shifts for the engine you're running = quicker 1/4 times (granted it isn't bullet proof but it's designed for an engine like yours).

Im getting it from my grandpas junk yard, I am sure it is a 400 and idk if I can find a 350, and there are two carb spacers there cause that was whats on it and I kinda like the look of it so im gunna leave it and just cut a hole in the hood.lol(and put a scoop on or something.) I could go see if its bored or anything, but IM not looking for any major performance, Im hoping it will be around 300hp, I am still only 16 and I dont have alotta $$ right now to maximize my ponies lol. Im building this at my work, and I had a tire customer come up and ask me if I was runing like 400-500 hp. lol so i guess my motor at least looks really fast.

If the th400's in running condition, go for it. The good thing about it is if you put those numbers in front of it, it's not going to hurt the thing one way or another. You can always rebuild it later on if you wanted it in better shape.

Quick question - was the engine running in another car before you started building it?

yes it sure was, it was in a wrecked pickup truck and we put some oil in it and started it right up.

Ok, you should at least take it to the shop and take off the heads before you put it in the car and have them mike the cylinders. They should do this for pretty cheap. If you don't you might get 10,000 miles then...boom. If you catch a problem now (not saying there is one), it could be a 100$ hone fix. If you wait it could be up to a 3/400$ fix.

eh... too late i kinda already put all new gaskets and stuff on there. I think it should be fine. What would I have em do to the cylendars? "mike" them? is that what you ment to say? I will ask about that tommarow to our "mechanic" hes kinda instructing me on what to buy lol
