You would think if this is prevalent on stock blocks, that ARP would have changed the torque specs by now, to avoid a possible lawsuit or something. If that's the case, I would question all ARP torque recommendations. Which in turn would cause me(and a lot other customers) to not use ARP at all. I torqued to 80, with the supplied ultra lube, but my torque wrench aint a Snap-on, so it's probably off a little anyway. We'll see, I just can't go against the printed ARP torque specs. I'll give my machinist a call on Monday and see what he has to say. Thanks for the info and pics tho chevy2480.

when you torque by the head you lose about 10% of the torque value so the arp lube must free up that torque, at 65 lbs you would not have the same bolt stretch as you would using oil or some other form of lube. I'm sure arp has done it's research.

That's what I'm thinking, PontiacGP, but I do appreciate chevy2480's input.

Im sure they did there research to. But doesnt mean they are right all the time. Proform built my carb brand new out of box it falls apart and destroys my motor. See my point. I am talking from experience here not just pulling it out of my *ss. Maybe you will be fine maybe you wont. Anytime a stud is used it puts stress in other areas. For example studs on bottom end require the block to be line bored because it destrorts the main caps. Same goes for head studs the added torq destort the block deck and cylinder wall. Thats the reason for honeing with a deck plate to correct any destrotion in the bore. But what do i know only had to build the same motor twice in a month and have block remachined because of useing head studs and torqing it to the experts 80lb recommendation. That would be fine on say a motown block etc.
