i swapped out my 260 in my 81 cutlass calais to a sbc 350 from an 88 chevy pickup. now starter is on opposite side, how is best way to deal with that. also the alternator plug is different. can i just chop plugs off and swap em?

any help is appreciated..

CUT THE FUSABLE LINKS OFF STARTER WIRES, AN MAKE THEM LONGER WITH SAME GAUGE WIRE, AND PUT THE ENDS BACK ON THE EXTENDED WIRE

For the starter wiring, you can splice in wire to lengthen the stock wires or go from the fuze panel and run new wires. Personally I would just splice them.

hey thanks fellas, figured i could just lengthen wires. what about that alt plug, think i can just splice the right plug onto existing wires?

i know this kinda thing is frowned upon... u know... puttin a chev motor in an olds, but i have a history with this motor. it came in an 88 chev silverado that i bought new then sold to my dad. he put over 200,000 miles on it before we changed it for a 4 bolt main crate motor. it sat in barn for many years. dad recently passed away, i rebuilt this motor and put it in my olds... which i have owned for 28 years.

i also put a 700r4 behind it, so i need to know if i need a computer to make it work. i am sure i will run into something else and have a few more questions, but for now... it's finally coming together. i may hear it run soon.

oh ya, i need a water pump pulley that fits an 88 chev pichup (serpintine), if anyone has one gatherin dust in garage.

Nothing wrong with putting a chevy in an olds. The purist can f off and deal with it. Your still a part of the larger hot rod culture. As far as a computer for the 700, no you dont need it. You need a lock up switch for the converter. Check summit or a million other online vendors that sell them. You will just have to flip a switch to amke the converter lock up and unlock. Goodluck

Haha yeah, hell its all GM anyways. And sh*t some even came with Chevy's. The only way I would not swap a sbc or bbc, is if I had a nice 442 or h/o. I would love to throw a bbo in my cutty. But I grew up building Chevy's that's what I know and love. And They are far more affordable and easy to get stuff for lol. Sorry for my kind of off topic rant haha.

I would first take the old 2004r transmission brakets and drill through the spotwelds with a spotweld drill bit. Then take a pry bar and tap it slowly so the pry bar wedges in between the floor and the braket, it should then pop off. If you have 700r4 trans brakets bolt the crossmember to the brakets and put it where its supposed to be. Then take a sharpe or zip blade and go around each braket so you know they go. Unbolt crossmember from brakets and simply weld them back on 😀
