self-aligning rocker arms

I have some cheapo stamped ones on my L98 heads, along with some push-rod guide plates.

I use these rockers on a aggressive 0.495 lift, SOLID flat tappet lifter cam. And take the engine in excess of 6000rpms under heavy racing...

poli-locks, screw-in studs, and guide plates go a long ways... you can save some cash from keeping rockers simple (non-roller, non billet) and invest the money in these other items instead

I thought you weren't supposed to use guide plates with self aligning rockers. Was I misinformed?

how can they sell a dressed new vortec head for $299...

I use the stock stamped on my vortecs and the 602 with vortec heads in our race car has the stamped rockers and that motor is pushed to 6300 rpm. There hasn't been one failure with the stamped self aligning rockers on any of the cars in our division. We have to run the stock ones, no upgrades permitted

299 is a good deal and you have to use self aligning on vortec heads, I don't think I said you can't go without them. I paid $300 for the pair of vortecs but they were used....the GM vortec heads come stock with stamped self aligning rocker just like in Khan's picture

No your not misinformed. Usually your not supposed to run both at the same time. Binding in the valvetrain can happen.

any one have suggestions on which ones are good on a budget? or even a cheaper alternative?

About the cheapest I have seen are through summit, probably about the same price through Jegs. They are GM for about 65 bucks if memory serves me right.
