Shift Linkage problems

on my chevy 350 trans im sure i adjusted the linkages correctly. when the car is started it goes into park fine but every gear i shift into on the shifter makes it drive forward.no reverse no neutral, just drive.

when the car is off but the ignition is on and i shift into reverse the car rolls back into reverse and so on.
im very confused.

Having it roll back when the car is off don't matter. Take any car that is working correctly and put it in drive with the engine off and it will still roll backwards.
Go back and re-checck it. Or better yet jack it up and have someone run it through the gears(engine off) and lay underneath it and see whats going on at the transmission.

Ive done all of that but upon my last inspection I noticed a S-Clip fell on the ground. Could this be my main problem?

Will the engine rev freely when you have it in park?

Yeah, it revs freely in park and doesnt move

well, seems like it was an s-clip that came out. i got it back in and problem solved!
