shock alignment

I have installed a new currie 9" rearend in my 1987 monte carlo SS and the angle of the shock to the rearend isn't corect . I tried to use a spacer but I don't like it . If any one can help I would apreciate it . Here is a pic of the problem !

My first thought is to cut a pie shaped slit in the cornor of the bracket,bend the metal back in the mounting area & reweld.

Actually my first thought is to call curry & ask , it's supposed to fit.
