So it appears my alternator is crapping out. Its ok though its the one I bought it back in 2010 and I'm sure its been there since years before that. So I'm looking for a replacement, I'd like to put a chrome one in to match my valve covers and such. For one I heard "chrome holds in the heat" and is bad. I'd like some opinions on that. Also on parts sites I keep seeing GM 1 wire alternators but mine has the multi pin connector like this one.

Any advice anyone can give is welcome. I haven't had an alternator die since like 2000 on my 3.1 Lumina eurosport.

I personally would not get a chrome alternator and it will hold in more heat than a non chrome one and alternators can already get really hot especially if you are nearing max output amperage.
Depending on your budget there are some nicely built alternators out there that use a billet aluminum housing that can be polished or ordered polished, I know Mechman and DC Power have them and possibly Ohio Alternator might have them but prices start about $350 and up but these come with 170+ amps and they really crank out the amps at idle compared to your typical performance catalog alternators.

I appreciate it. I use minimal juice, just a stock Buick gm radio from roughly 1990. No extra lights, screens or subs. I could easily run one under 100 amps all day. I guess a Delco part it is for me.
