Ken, I'm soooo glad I don't live in New England anymore; yeah there were a lot more of these cars sold up there but 99% turned into complete rusty hulks long ago.
To me it's a parts car at best. And $4,000 wouldn't have even been worth it a month ago; today's value $1000 TOPS (even if you could sell the 8.5 for $1000 and the lightning rods for $400 you still gotta go get the car, remove the parts, advertise them, deal with people etc. etc. all of which takes time and time is $$$).
It Could be saved, but you'll put 2-3x more money into restoring this car than it'll ever be worth in our lifetimes. This summer one of the few local hobbyist car guys I know picked up a 1987 442 that was BETTER than this thing and he parted it out. He got probably 10 emails from Olds guys telling him "SAVE IT; DON'T PART IT OUT" and his response was "unless you want to give me $4K for it; I'm gonna part it out" (cause that's about what he'd from parting it). Nobody was willing to pay that. I gladly drove down to his house and bought some parts for my own car at a fraction of the price I'd pay on eBay.
