Spool or locker?

If we put the same size rear tires and the same pressure in the rear tires our circle track cars would loose at least a few seconds a lap putting it in dead last, that is if it didn't hit the wall cause the car would be pushing really hard. Why would anyone want to run a spool when it diminishes performance in corners and will not help in the straightaway speed.

but if you really want to run a spool and money is no object then get a Winter's rear end. You can do a gear change in less than 15 minutes.

Many years ago I broke a pinion In my daily driver that had a Ford 8". I had a spare third member on the shelf but it had a spool. Since I needed the car to commute the next morning I slapped it in. Even though it was just a couple miles each way it was absolutely miserable. I couldn't find a replacement fast enough. So, for all the guys that say it's dangerous -- they're probably right. For me, it just wasn't any fun. There was nothing cool about it. Spools belong at the dragstrip.

No, I've never personally seen a spool related fatality. Have they happened? I absolutely don't doubt it. I was only speaking to my own experience having driven one on the street. It sucked. It wasn't fun or cool. I put a grand total of maybe 25 miles commuting mine before I got an open replacement installed. Not a moment too soon.
From the tone of your posts it really sounds like you want to run one. So do it. Then when the next guy asks the same question in a new thread you can be the guy who says how cool it is to street drive a car that's hard to turn. Or maybe you'll be like me and say, "Yep, tried it. Didn't like it."
I don't think spools are stupid. I just think they have their place.

Everything is a waste of money ro me. If it's not an investment or my mortgage or something along those lines it's a waste. I don't see how anything I'm doing is half assing. That's what I'm trying to avoid which was the intent of this thread.

If you actually go and read my posts you will see that I made a decision. I'm not sure what tone you are referring to, but clearly you didnt read my complete posts.

Dude, dial it back. I'm not arguing with you. My darling little eyeroll was in reference to the back and forth about "everyone is gonna die" vs "its cool, you won't even notice it". Just restating my original point that it's just no fun. You're right, somehow I missed your statement about going locker. I apologize. I thought I'd read them all in they're entirety but somehow it slipped past me. The thread kept going and I thought the debate was ongoing. The tone I was referring to was that you asked the question in the first place, then asked if they were really that bad, and then stated that you were still undecided. Again, it's your car. Do what you like.

So here's the plan. Eaton truetrac, 30 spline moser axles, keeping the 3.73s, and every bearing is being replaced. Also going with an alum cover with the bearing preload bolts. Said and done under $1500 and a little over $1600 if I want a 3 year warranty.

My guy said doing the c clip eliminators aren't a good idea with street driving and that I should be good up to 900hp with this setup . He doesn't think I'll ever have enough tire to hook and hurt the rear end. So time to start throwing money at him. I'm glad we got it in motion. Thanks for everybodies input and help.
