Started ripping out the engine today to clean it paint it put on a new set of heads, new cam, intake and carb.
IMG_3480.jpg

When i checked the casting numbers on the heads i found something interesting:

the casting number is 3947041, I did a lil research and found out:
3947041....69-70...302/350......"Right angle" casting identifier, 64cc chamber, accessory holes, good HP head

Not a bad stock casting, so then I figured check the engine casting, the casting number is 3956618 which could be a 302, 327 or a 350 block. So i wanted to look further, found the ENGINE ASSEMBLY DATE/SUFFIX CODE, the Suffix code is HB:

code - HB year - 1969 C.I.D - 350 Trans. - tur hydro trans. H.P. - 300 carb - 4bbl

So the engine is out of a 69 camaro, RPO code L-48 which is a 350ci, 10.25 : 1 comp. - 300hp and 380ft/lbs of torque.

Not a bad engine to get with the car. with the new cam, heads, intake and bigger carb, this engine should run hard. more pics to come......

look up by the timing cover(i think) if you have the numbers 010 and 020 or 20 then you have the high nickel content block. it's one of the strongest sbc's ever produced.

i got one of edelbrocks top end packages, with aluminum heads, air gap intake, all arp bolts, a nice healthy cam too. claims 435 horse power, not bad at all, the price was 1,700, i thought this was a really good deal, and then you know everything is going to work well together. just a though though, i do not know what your plans are for it really.

You forgot to mention it's a 4 bolt main block as well. The L-48, LT-1 and L82 engines were all 4 bolt mains as well as most truck blocks and I am sure many 350 applications I have left out as well.

Actually it specifically said they have been documented in both 2 and 4 bolt mains.

st-jean baptiste ,quebec,
L48 was the regular 350 4barrel 300 hp rated engine in the novaSS, camaro in the 1968-70
as far as I know they dint come in 4 bolt main but had the 442 steel crankshaft casting

but dont worry I rev those to occsionnal 6500 rpm easy without any issue

I agree the 7.5 thats in my olds has moser parts in it. The rearend belonged to my buddy who had it in his 12.40 malibu for about a year and his 13 second monte carlo a couple years before that. They hold up better than people think when built right. Oh yea, sweet car
