Hi I have a 81 caballero that had a 327 small block put in it I have had it for about 6 months and have not had issues with the starter. One morning I tried to start it and all I got was a deep click I think from the solenoid or no noise at all so I took the starter and battery off and got them tested and they both were good so I thought it might be the ignition switch so I got a new one and put it on and put the stater and battery in and it still does nothing any ideas?

Also I forgot how the starter was wired up so I put the 2 red wires and big black wire on the big post and the small one on the s post is that right?

Sounds like you have it wired correctly. I would say either it's a bad connection at the battery, a bad battery cable (either one), a bad solenoid, a bad connection where the hot cable fastens to the starter, a bad connection where your negative battery cable attaches to the engine or a bad battery.

You said you took the starter off, tested that and the battery but did you check the battery cables and their contact points?

Loose ground at the engine? Corrosion inside the battery cable? How confident of the starter and battery testing the auto parts did are you?

I am pretty confident because the battery is pretty new and the voltage gauge reads at 12 when I prime the car the I saw the starter running when they tested it
if you turn your headlights on and try to start the car do the headlights shut off?
I just tried that and they don't shut off
