Re: Budget Cutlass Build Thread

Recently we were busting butt to get the car ready for the Hot Rod Power Tour in Charlotte. We got a custom drive shaft loop made, and also wired up the neutral safety switch.

A friend of ours also has an Innovative Motorsports air fuel guage that will log and record data while you are driving. You then can upload the data to a laptop to see how close your carb tuning is. Air fuels for this motor were pretty much spot on across the board. Other then a little burble that we think a new secondary spring Will clear up.

So once that was all done, it was time to head to Zmax for the 2014 Hot Rod Power Tour, I was planning to drag race the car. Once we got there I saw that they had a dyno and decided what the heck. Here's the dyno sheet. Pretty respectible 303 RWHP and 324 TQ. The dyno pull was made in second gear becuase 3rd would have been a long pull will a 2.56 gear.

I was expecting a little bit more, but hey it sounded downright nasty.

After that I made my first 3 passes ever. The times aren't even worth mentioning. I was trying to figure out how to get out of the hole, and every time you shifted into second it broke traction so I couldn't really get a full pass in. Oh well, live and learn. I'm looking foward to getting a posi rear and maybe some slicks. My reaction times were around .19x and my 60 foots improved each pass. I had a good time and was humbled by drag racing. I got the bug now. After a day of beating an driving 4 hours each way the Transmisson has decided it's had enough. 2-4 band is slipping pretty bad, so I'm accumulating the parts now.

Re: Budget Cutlass/DYNO RESULTS/Drag Racing is Hard

Thanks. After I put some gears in it, I wanna have it on the dyno again. Surely the Transmisson had to be slipping on the dyno. We also changed secondary springs and could add some more timing. I'm hoping for actually 350 at the wheels after all of that.

Re: Budget Cutlass/DYNO RESULTS/Drag Racing is Hard

Transmisson is all done and shifting great! I've just been logging more miles on this motor and surprisingly I've been getting around 15 mpg. When we did the transmission I also swapped to a rally Pac cluster and single chamber race mufflers. I also just ordered a 5 channel amp since my sub amp crapped out, and I wanted to change my 4 channel anyway. I plan on getting another sub and building another box. Anyway, here are some videos, it is LOUD.

Re: Budget Cutlass Build-VIDEOS (PG 16)

Just curious, what did your car run at the track? I have always shared my dismal track runs, usually full of problems.

Re: Budget Cutlass Build-VIDEOS (PG 16)

The in front of the car I was following stopped short. I locked up the brakes and slid underneath their spare tire. It was a jeep liberty. I think I have liability. I want to try to fix it, but I really don't know at the point. No one was hurt. I got an $81.00 ticket "too fast for conditions." The state trooper said it was not admitting to speeding. This could be the end, or the start of a transformation. I'll keep you guys in the loop.

Re: Budget Cutlass Build-Bad, Bad Day.

That sucks but I don't understand what you mean they stopped short. They stopped and you couldn't so you were travelling too fast or following too close. I hate when someone follows too close
