Stupid things buyers/sellers do

Lately, and you know who you are, a certain someone here pointed some people in their little world of car folks my way for some custom decal work....there was some Instagram people that apparently aren't really car people bugging me for SPIDs and door jamb decals, etc.

In no way am I holding that person responsible for what happens next, it does make me wonder who the heck they hang around with? Examples--- (and I'll just do a synopsis):

Guy with a 90s Impala asks if I can do door jamb decals and SPID. Don't know, never seen any. Potential customer takes pictures as requested. Good pics too. Says wants both types of decals. Yeah, I can do them. They look a bit different, but very do-able. Sure. Agree on price and he was happy about the price points. Gave the go ahead to proceed with repros. So all I requested to ensure I had the decals the right size was for him to measure the existing decals. I sorta took a stab at it, but I want to make sure they're the same size. So I get the prototypes done and let him know they're done, just need the exact measurements I requested. That was a long while back. WTF? At least I know I can do early 90s Impalas.

Another one with an Aerocoupe. Guy wants it all. Including a window sticker. I need some info for the window sticker. I've asked him specifically for information needed at least 4 times and he still won't give it up. I'm still waiting... No longer in the dentristy business. I no longer pull teeth. Sent him an email May 28th....

Another guy asks if I can make some decals for his 81 Malibu. For faster response, I should call him at (phone number). WTFF?? No. It doesn't work that way. He included pics of what he wanted, but his decals were half torn up and he never supplied me with any information to try and help fill in the blanks on it.

It's like, when you ask specifically for information that should be easy to get, and you hear nothing...fugg that. I got better things to do. Just tell me what you want it to say....*crickets*

And lately, guy says he has an 87 Monte SS...ok, no problem. I need a pic of VIN and if there are any original decals on the car, a pic of those would help. Shows me pic of his car and of VIN...hey, it's an 85 VIN. Oh yeah, it's an 85. *smdh*. Then they're wanting a SPID. Ok, what RPOs do you want on the SPID? Or at least tell me all the options you know the car has. I can come up with something perhaps, but I'm no magician. *crickets*

Out of all the instagram people that inquired, only ONE guy with an 88 Monte came through with everything I needed to redo door jambs and spid stickers for his car. Done, paid for, and sent. Happy customer (I guess since he never complained about anything) and happy me.

From now on, I'm not going to do SQUAT until payment arrives. I'll request the info ONCE. You don't supply it, I don't worry about it. But at least I do have some more prototypes due to some of these guys and their propensity to be total douches when wanting stuff and then ghosting out.

A couple of times I extended myself to help out fellow members from another web forum that were somewhat local to me. One guy wanted parts from a swb fleetside truck I had advertised. He asked me to bring them w/me to a meet/greet about an hour from where I live. While I considered going to the meet & greet, I had ZERO plans to load & haul 2 bedsides, a front panel, plus an aftermarket tail-gate for the trip. I politely suggested he needed to come my way. He assured me the number I wanted was well worth the parts, the pics I provided were good enough for him, & it would save him the extra drive.
He was a no-show for the meet & greet....

The 2nd guy had a catastrophic failure in his 12bolt housing which physically chewed up the inside portion of the pumpkin/axle tube area so it was not rebuildable. I mentioned my 64 had a 12-bolt that technically wasn't for sale BUT was rebuildable if he was interested & it would help. We set a time for him to come by & look @ it in person to ensure we were both on the same page. Before the agreed upon time, I got the call/story that he couldn't get out of work & the shop was going to charge him for his truck taking up a bay/lift space so he asked me if I could deliver it. I explained again he really needed to come to me but he was adamant things move forward that day. I agreed to help him out & he said he'd pay extra for the effort. I pulled the rear end out of the truck, loaded it solo, drove to the repair shop (20mins east on the near-by hwy). The guys @ the shop unload it & then want to pop the cover to see what gears it has. OK... Then they say "It's worn out & needs to be rebuilt". I told them "Yep, most likely. It's just a core for rebuilding. It should work for now since I drove the truck it came out of w/o any significant noises". They call the guy & decline to purchase the housing. WTF? I told the guy that was a BS move. I did everything possible to help him out & he f**ked me. He said he would be willing to pay me a few bucks for my gas. I told him no thanks. But where he was hitting me up weekly for help, advice, & sources.... Just lose my number because it won't happen.

Since that point, I no longer will do anything w/o a deposit that @ the minimum covers my efforts. If that's an issue, go elsewhere.

Here’s a new one for me: I’m not crazy about eBay but have to use it to sell from time to time. I just had a buyer, who I never had any other contact with, not even a message on ebay, send me a friend request on Facebook. Please don’t.

I have been contemplating selling a spare vehicle I own, not listed yet, and actually had a friends dad contact me, interested. i told him i would take it out of storage, get it all ready to come look at. Two days worth of effort ect ect, i called to inform him the car is ready for his inspection. Nothing for two days, get a call late, he asks if i will drive it to his house just to look at it, 50 miles one way because his wife ha anxiety issues. Nope, don't need to sell it, whats next, have me pay for it :blam:

My youngest son is moving so we got him a better car to drive cross country.
Listed his 03 Civic on C/List and threw it out on the front lawn for sale.
Had a few emails, and last Saturday had 2 drivebys stop and take a look.
First guy - barely looked at the car 'What's the least you'd take for cash today?"
Shot him a # a bit under my inflated asking price on the window, he says " I'll transfer you the money today"
Had to explain the principle of cash or no sale.
He leaves, writes down my #.
An hour later, nice couple comes by with their daughter, looking for her first car.
Look, talk, look, and leave as she wants to "see what else she can find".
First guy hits me back late afternoon, says he'll pay my full asking price ( the original # I wrote on the w/s) in cash today.
I say OK, but you need to pick it up today, no storing the car at my place after you paid me for it.. Turns out he's from 5 hours away and taking the train home Sat night.
Shows up with the full amount in a mishmash of $100's, 50's 10's and $20 bills.
I write him a bill of sale and they leave with it, no plates, reg, or insurance.
Bye Bye., have a nice trip, see you later....
Need more buyers like him

I sold an atv on c-list a few weeks ago. I had the requisite “will you trade straight up for......” and “what’s your bottom dollar” questions but sold it within 4 days for not too far off my inflated asking price. The worlds definitely going crazy!!

The line "what's your bottom dollar" is laughable. How can a buyer determine a value/price on a vehicle without ever seeing it? These buyers are not as concerned with the condition of what's for sale as they are with the price. I recently sold a car to a guy that asked zero questions about it. We met in the parking lot of a restaurant. As he got out of his car, he glanced at my car. Then started on the "what's your bottom dollar". I didn't budge. A few days later he called and all he could say was he had "cash". I told him that was not a bargaining point as I would only accept cash. He ends up buying the car w/o finding anything about it, without even looking inside or at the engine. All he was interested in was the price. I might have been willing to negotiate if he had not been so interested in the "bottom dollar". Jerks don't get discounts!
