I had rotater cuff and bicep re attachment surgery last November coupled with a case of sciatica during recovery. The company I worked for "Laid me off" on a Friday when I was to return on the following Monday.
I wish them all the best!
But.....Needless to say I no longer suggest their "Bent On Perfection" products.

If your workplace sucks then form a UNION!!!! You know, that dirty word that BIG MONEY has brainwashed you into believing is the cause of all your problems. Right-to-work really means right-to-work-FOR-LESS. With no representation. Brave workers got their heads cracked open forming unions decades ago. All the nice things like eight hour days and vacations you take for granted today were hard fought for you by UNIONS. And you just toss them away because you have drank the Corporate Kool Aid fed to you by bought-and-paid-for BS factories like Fox News. Amazon failed to insert one of thier slimy tentacles here in NYC because they outright refused to allow unions. Good F'n riddance! Do you really think that modern day humane working conditions would exist on the good graces of Corporate America?!?:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

there are plenty of cases in Ohio for wrongful dismissal. To fire someone when on medical leave should open the door to punitive damages for acting in bad faith against an employee of 23 years

The 8 hour work day was a result Unions but so was the auto industry bailout that started around 2009.
My dad was a Union man who wasn't afraid to speak candidly about the pitfalls associated with Unions.
He used to tell stories of coworkers sleeping for hours on the job, clocking in on Saturday and Sunday only to leave and play golf on the clock all day.

By the time I hit 20 my dad got real comfortable expressing himself to me.
This is when I learned to run away if he started to talk about Union corruption.
It was crazy to see such a mild mannered guy completely lose his sh*t about the crooks in the UAW.

Unions have done a great deal of good for the American worker but they have changed a lot.
Like everything else with copious amounts of money it morphed into something it was not intended to be.

Much like the NCAA.

Unfortunately, it looks like they fired him after he exhausted his FMLA protections.
Legal... yes
The right thing to do... no

I hate it for you. I worked for my present corporate insurance company for 8 months. Contracted the flu and pneumonia. Was out for 6 weeks. Lost 30 lbs off of my 6' 200 lbs, non-smoker and keep myself in shape frame. My son (who has some medical background) said I almost died.
They never stopped paying me and never said a word.

it's all about the money and you are right, to some companies you are just a number.

You guys can bad-mouth unions all you want, but this is a great example of why they are still important!
In fact, I'd say that in an age of ever-increasing outsoursing, automation and profit squeezing, they're more important than ever!
"but union workers are lazy! blahblahblahblahblah"
Lazy workers are the result of spineless management, not the unions protection.
We have the same thing at my plant, and it's the lack of leadership that allows it to perpetuate.
They love to pretend that their hands are tied by the union because they don't want to man-up and be the bad guy...
Our union does nothing to protect workers that are not doing their jobs.
They simply make sure that management follows the disciplinary process agreed upon in the contract.
Anything beyond that is managements own creation...

I was a union worker for almost 2 decades. Very large union in Chitcago. I've seen it all. Good and bad. Worked with guys whose daddy got them in and they never worked with a tool in their life. There's some good things too but the political bs was horrible. I was fired for being charged with a felony. Not convicted. Just charged which I beat with 18 months of going to court and tons of lawyers fees. I'm not saying I wasn't at some fault BUT the union did nothing for me. I'm not union now. And a huge corporate entity has destroyed the hospital I work for. It's pitiful. It's greed. It's evil
I'm of the opinion that if you can work for yourself or a small mom and pop shop who truly cares about their employees, that this is the only way to go. Once a business gets too big it turns into a chit storm. Like big government
