Suspension upgrade questions

I started with UMI's stage 1 kit....springs, shocks, new front/rear sway bars, 1" drop. I'm not going to to say it made a huge difference...yet, but that "boat" "float" feeling is certainly gone. On my first burn out, I noticed "wheel hop" for the first time, or at least what I think is wheel hop. It's much tighter to the road, without being too rough.

The most annoying thing is that now I can hear all of the rattles from everything else wrong with the car lol. When everything on the car is wrong, you just get used to it, when you start fixing stuff...the wrong stuff seems 100x worse. Suspension wise, I'll address the rear control arms next.

When you Upgrade components for the purpose of making your car handle better you are essentially "stiffening" up suspension components, One of the drawbacks for some customers is that by doing this you are trading a plush ride for a well handling car.

The reason the weak stamped steel control arms don't twist or break in these cars is because they have rubber bushings in them that let them flex, this is one of the reasons these cars have that "boat" or "float" feel.

We are in the business of upgrading suspensions so we don't offer rubber for bushings for good reason. Poly is our go to street bushing for customers that want to upgrade handling and still maintain a comfortable street ride, now if your using your car in a "race" application this isn't the bushing of choice for your application but if your car is mainly a street car or even if your going to hit a local event and aren't trying to win Optima Ultimate Street Car challenge then there is absolutely no reason you should be afraid to run Poly bushings anywhere on your car!

If your looking for bind free suspension and/or don't mind more NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) then I would recommend using a roto-joint or spherical rod end in place of poly bushings.

In a nutshell Customers that are looking to upgrade the handling of their car and are looking for the quietest most pleasurable ride then they should choose Polyurethane. If you are willing to trade a little NVH for a complete bind free suspension then you should look into something like our roto-joint components, they are no where near as noisy as a spherical rod end, but not that far off of what Polyurethane will give you.
