BUILD THREAD Sweet Johnny & Gina: A Love "Two Large" To Fail

Choose the middle steering wheel and put an Olds rocket in the center of it.

The radio currently isn't like the radios you got in the picture. So there's going to be a bit of mods going on to get one to fit. Never went backwards on fitting in a newer radio in the older dash, so it may be easier than I thought, but either way, you'll need a new radio plate for 84-up style.

That wing? You sure about wanting that? 🤔

The visors? Visors shoudn't have the extra clips on them for pivot points supports above the mirror. Don't know what those came out of. Likely a big car or newer car because of the extensions. Definitely not an A/G body. They MIGHT work, but I dunno. Just be aware.

And finally, just some tips. Do whatever you want, but I'd approach it differently. Make the car as reliable and road-worthy as possible FIRST. Even if it takes a year or so to get it there. Then after it's tuned, wheels alignned, new tires, repacked/new bearings as needed, shocks whatever it needs, THEN I'd start worrying about performance upgrades and stuff. Establish your baseline first. Otherwise, you're just going to end up being another two-bit wannabe. Use the money saved to snoop around and maybe find a solid running 350 or if someone has a 383 short block they no longer need, etc....THEN build that engine like you want, do a weekend swap and build it as a package. Yeah, you can pump up the volume a bit on the 305, but in reality, don't waste money on doing a whole lot with it. It IS a 305 after all. Or, just do whatever you like. You don't have to please anyone but yourself.
I'm wondering if the skeleton for the radio needs swapped as well as the front plate.

The wing was bought to resell at a profit, but I have it so I threw it into the mix.

I was told the visors would work (88-92 Buick Regal), if not these things and many others were purchased over the last 2 years to either use or sell.

Excellent advice on taking your time and modifying things after you've established a well put together vehicle. I'm absolutely making sure that it's mechanically sound before doing any unnecessary mechanical mods- I've learned this lesson the hard way before. Also, I'm hoping to have my truck back on the road in a couple months so Gina will become the backup. I might continue altering the aesthetics slowly though, I really, really can't start another project right now. I had 4 new tires installed last Thursday for safety's sake. I greased all the fittings, and the wheel bearings feel fine but need packed when the brakes get addressed. The alignment is spot on- she can drive herself for 2 miles near where I'm staying.

If I did beef up the 305 the first option was just to get more pep and make it competitive on the freeway, the second was an "all out but never gonna happen" scenario. I was really just letting my mind wander, I can't help it sometimes.

The th200C shifts just like it should with the exception of a 2-3 flare, so it might get a shift improver kit from Superior when I service it. She definitely needs shocks, body mounts, all the bushings, etc..

A major hurdle right now is money. I have literally none. Buying this car set my life plans back by a solid 3 months, and they'd already been pushed by a year.

Right now I'm putting in Silverstar headlights so I can better see the deer that are all over the place. But that has turned into polishing the chrome trim rings and bezels too.

I might be wrong but didn't the H body Starfire use wheel simular to the Monza? If so there should be a rocket emblem to fit the center for wither the blue complete wheel or the that black one if it had the everything added to it?

Basically I'm torn between adding a fiberglass ram air hood, spoiler, buckets, console, and all the go fast stuff or merely adding the options that she didn't come with but are period correct.
A hood like the '70-'72 W30/W31? I wouldn't see any thing wrong as long as the manufacture would make the scoop lines blend with the lines of the '78-'80 hoods.

For the spoiler something like the '83-'84 Hurst/Olds could be the ideal one compaired to that Camaro.

Look around the '81-'88 Cutlass to see what cosmetic add ons that could work on a '78-'80. Even other G's may have that something extra that might fit your plans.
With the carpet I can understand with the scratches.

Drive her and get all the gremlins squared away while listening, and she'll tell you what she wants... meanwhile I'll take the B&M 144.
To quote Morgan Freeman in Shawshank: "Well yeah, Andy. I don't have her stuffed down the front of my pants right now, I'm sorry to say, but I'll get her."

Dump a quart of lucas trans stabilizer in there, I've had good luck with it calming down that flare shift in the 200cs n th350s
I'm a fan of Lucas products and have probably used every one they make at this point. I love their Red 'N' Tacky grease, and all of the auto additives have saved my butt more than once. However, I've blown every version of the 700r4 multiple times, exception being the "O.G." 200C because this is my first.

That being said, I've also learned the hard way that the best solution to any transmission problem is to get in there and address it immediately. Especially with all versions of this particular one, as they're each known to be easy to fry. I'm shocked the factory trans is still alive.

Lucas would no doubt do the trick to aid the flare and keep me mobile, but the internal cause of the problem would continue to get worse and eventually leave me stranded. If the Superior kit doesn't solve the issue then I'll have to put in that th350. If this was any other transmission I wouldn't even think twice about it, I'd add the Lucas and hammer down.

If I need to try a "fluid fix" before I can perform a proper service I think I'll first try replacing 2 qts with Type F. It doesn't have the friction modifiers and is slightly thicker than Dex/Merc without being honey. It's also been debated as to whether or not that's all B&M Trick Shift is. I went very, very far down a rabbit hole concerning the transmission fluid of choice for a wide range of scenarios once. The trans in my El Camino will be running hydraulic fluid from Tractor Supply after its next rebuild.

Yeah, a W30 unit from VFN is what I had in mind.

I like both versions of the lip spoiler but kind of want something bigger for this. The 83-84 H/O definitely looks good, but I feel that any of those 3 put me very close to looking like other mid '80s Cutlasses. I've wondered if one from a Lumina would fit, or a later Monte.

Sounds like we've had similar experiences. I'm optimistic about my 700r4 in my new elco though. I brought one back from the dead in a 91 caprice with lucas and got about a year out of it running hard on 22's. I'm not a fan of replacing fluid at all. If a filter change with the original dex/merc going back in with some lucas doesn't work, it gets sent to the trans shop, outta my skill set. That routine has served me well lasting months to years with some th350s. I feel like all transmission blow, it's just a matter of "when". It's nice to have extras laying around

On the wing, if you can, I need a side to side dimension. Might be able to use it.

On the wheel I would put On a quick disconnect with a nice size red tag stating "Don't Not Use". Then on passenger side mount one to an iron pipe mounted floor to dash, mount a press to start button that would be wired to a working 100 watt police siren. It would definitely confuse the heck out of any would be car thief.

Seriously though, On the engine keep a look out for a local 350 working pull in the 150 to 300 range. Clean it up, re-ring it, dbl roller timing set, M55HV or EPK141HV (both are under $50) and put 305 heads on it.

Get a crane or summit (Elgin) 1104, 1105 or 1106 kit or similar profile. No more than .488 or 220 to 230 duration at .50. Simple dual plane even stock iron would be ok and good 350 CID Q Jet. On the trans a BOP TH350 or 2004R, 2300 stall there or about, 3.08 to 3.42 rear.

Got Transmissions and can get more.

Have a stack of HO Heads in storage.

Most expensive would be body work, and I would be more inclined to get on that and drive to work in primer if I had to. But headliner got that going so it's not sitting on your head, that's good. Then the next is steering, suspension and brakes, because that's the stuff that can put you in the hospital.

When you get ready to, pull the engine..., get that out of the way. Cut out any garbage you don't need, make sure HVAC and Heater Core are good. Rattle Can the engine bay, make a nice new wire loom. Do the engine put back in with some chrome or Body Color Dress Up. Keep on keeping on, as they used to say.

These 2 are coming up Friday. The P30 would probably be big block.

The next two would be good run arounds while you fix up Gina.

03 LaSabre and 93 Honda, also easy fix and flip.
