The pushrods ride between your rocker arms and lifters. They are not connected but just held in place by the tension of the rockers. When you take the rockers off they will just pull out. If you have a shoe box or something similar you can draw an arrow pointing forward on it to mark front of engine then poke holes in the box and stick each pushrod in the box in the order it came out of the engine. Makes it easy to remember where they came from.

dude that shoebox idea is my kind of thinking good idea! i have a bunch of paper skectches of how things go and where my spark plug wires run and all that lmao and any part i take off all the bolts go with it into its own bag i thought i was brillant haha.

but what are rocker arms and what are lifters i wanna learn these terms i dont really know what they are or what they do

chevy2480 is doin a good job helpin you through this but I'll just reiterate, make sure you're taking everything apart in an organized manner. Label things or do something to make sure you don't forget what goes where or you will regret it later. Also, try and make sure you aren't doing any more damage as expenses can snowball quickly. I know you're new at this but try and be as absolutely careful as you can especially when handling the heads, intake, turbo, etc. as they are fairly easily damaged and you also don't want to get anything inside the motor.

That being said, the only way to learn some things is to dig right in and have fun and get some experience. So, keep at it no matter how frustrating it gets and, as most of on here have found, the end result can be very rewarding.

im putting the car up for the winter already so i got time lol i just dont wanna have to work on it when its cold as hell outside and i gotta run heaters and sh*t and i feel it commin in michigan at least

yea i got everything in seperate bags and my shop wanted 700 just take engine apart and do gaskets + whatever machine shop was gonna cost i thought well that 700 could fix my heads up crispy but yea i know what you mean i gotta be more careful believe me i was pissed about the fiber glass. my montes (not ss) could have sworn that one is steel oh well,,, il be at the junkyards

The rockers are circled in red. The little blue circles are circling where the pushrods are going to be when you take the rockers off. They are a hollow tube that gets pushed up by the lifter which gets pushed up by the cam lobe. They push the rocker and cause the valve to open. Where abouts in Michigan. I am around Jackson.

thanks for the illistration and the lifters are at the bottom of the pushrods?

jackson is like an hour away from me i live in dearborn heights

I am sure you figured it out but just incase the bolts between the rockers holds the rocker arm and rocker shaft in place. Remove those 3 bolts and rockers come right off. Becareful not to bang them around to much because the plastic retainer in the center of rocker arms tend to break easy and are not a instock item at most auto parts store. When you replace your headgasket felpro part#9441 is what you want.

Label all electrical connectors and vacuum hoses to their location :!: You can get a small "easy-out" kit from a local NAPA store to remove that broken bolt. I would also remove the lower radiator hose so that it will drain the remaining coolant from the top side of the engine (makes removing the heads less of a mess)

dude i can not get the pipe thing off that has a fuel line running into it. i cant even get the fuel line out cause theres like a guard and i cant get that thing off.. the pipe with fuel is connected to fuel injectors i think? i cant get them off the visable side and the other side is being blocked by the guard. i keep telling myself not to panic but i think i should be lol

You dont have to remove injector or fuel rail. Just unscrew the line out of rail on passenger side. By the pic it lools like you already removed the fuel pressure regulator from drivers side of fuel rail. If you cant get the lines to move the is a bracket holding them on driverside down next to waterpump. If you got turbo off and all wireing unhooked along with vac lines remove the bolts holding intake down and remove intake. The bolts are on the 4 corners and in the center. Did you get egr sh*t out of the way.
