Did you get the GN 200-4r built?
No I did not have the GN 200-4R built, I bought it used along with the D5 converter on craigslist and just wired in the lockup converter pressure switch and put a new gasket on the pan and new fluid and drove it. I figure the GN has just as much torque as my 455 so if it was good for the GN then it should be good for my engine and it has held up for 3 years and counting.

The 2004r that I had built for my daily driver el camino cost in the 2,000-2500 range and I got it to handle way more than power than what it's make but was well worth it. Then for my Malibu that I will be racing the 2004r will cost around 4500-5000 due to torque converter and additional mods so it will survive a long time. Transmission arent cheap now a days especially when you start to add power to then above there stock rating.

Is this a stock 455?

If yes, what year?

If no, what is done to it?

Your power output will determine what trans, the performance level you need and how much it will cost.

1969 455 Block with Forged Crank
Bored .030
TRW Forged Pistons
10:1 Compression
C Heads (lightly ported, large valves, rebuilt, 1.6 Harland Sharp roller rockers)
Mondello/Engle JM 25-28 (.523/.544 280/292 108 LSA)
Holly 750 Carb (no Qjet due to intake)
Proform Air Gap Intake
Reconditioned Stock Rods w/ARP bolts
7 qt Moroso Pan
Super Comp Headers
Will be keeping the 3.73 gear for now

The thought of a $2500 questionable 200-4R VS. an $850 bulletproof TH-400 is what steered the decision with my 442.
Depending on conditions, I usually get around 8-12 mpg with my 455/TH-400/3:73.
Now that the TH-400 is already in my car, I'd rather spend $2500 on a GearVendors than $2500+ on a 200-4R...

Could you share some info on your RPM readings with your combo?

How much hp/tq is your Pontiac 455 putting out? I have a "unproven" stock rebuilt BRF 200-4r that I got to use as a core. I thought about running it as is until... the trans needed overhaul.

What do u think your HP/TQ is

It's been a while since I've driven it and my memory isn't 100%... but I'm pretty sure it spins around 2500 rpm at 55 mph...
That's with a 255/60R15 rear tire... not much taller than stock.

Pretty heathy motor - off the top of my head I would guess 450 Hp . My vote would be for the 400 - simple and very easy to build (cheap)
Even if you bought one built, if you got 10mpg w/ the 400, you might get 12 mpg w/ the 200r. @ $2.50 a gal it would take you 50,000 mi
to break even - not to mention the converter difference.

I am putting a 200 4r behind my built 67 buick 400. It has dual 4s 10.25 compression rato, ..30 over engine.. Factory it had 440 ft torque at 3200 rpm. The olds 455 had 500 ft lbs at 3200. They can build the transmission to handle the torque of your motor. I plan to put a buick 470 in mine next year.
