Atlas written at the bottom...hmmm...

Atlas Copco component?

Air Compressor? Gas Compressor? Generator?

Who knows? Maybe it’s a giant crate of world atlases. I could become the next travelling encyclopedia/atlas salesman!
😏

Tire machine?

Nope, I don’t have the need (yet) to change tires often enough to warrant buying a tire machine.

I was hoping for a hoist....

That would be nice, but unfortunately no.
City bylaws prevented me from building any taller than what I’ve got, and 9’ ceilings aren’t enough to raise the cars enough to do diddly squat.

I'll say fancy compressor for my first guess, a phonebooth time machine like Bill & Ted used to get those hard to find parts for my second.

That would be nice wouldn’t it?

Jump shear.
Ok maybe I'm just posting things I want. Hydraulic tubing bender

Nope and nope.
Like I said it’s an upgrade over an existing piece of equipment I already have. I don’t currently own a planishing hammer, English wheel or tubing bender (other than my press type, but I don’t really count that). They are definitely on the wish list for the future though.

The guesses and speculation are awesome guys, and some of you have already guessed correctly. But I’m not going to neither confirm nor deny exactly what it is until it gets delivered here next week.

Anyways, enough about this silly guessing game nonsense. Let’s get back to the car.

Tonight I got the driver’s side pass-through insert fully welded solid on the outside.

It went a lot quicker due to the fact that I knew what I was doing this time around and had the fitment a lot better to begin with. I ended up trimming off the upper flange just like the other side, but it left a lot smaller gap this time and was way easier to weld up.

Also, you gotta love it when you find that you’ve already completed one of your planned modifications and had completely forgotten all about it. Apparently I had already done the rocker to quarter seam delete on this side, it was a pleasant little surprise to find it already there and finished.

I still have a little stud and hammer/dolly work to do to straighten it out a little better, but that’s pretty minor in the big scheme of things. I think it’s going to look really good when it’s all said and done.

Ignore the secondary seam higher up on the quarter for now, that is there just so I had good solid new metal to work with for this exhaust project. That will get addressed when I get to the planned quarter panel phase.

I’ve gotta get done what I can now without starting on the next task because the temporary shutdown to accommodate the new piece of equipment is going to start right away quick.

D.

I figured it out! And the car looks good too. Did you do quarter patches the first time around?

Thanks Eric.
It’s a long story about the quarter panels. They were rotted out around the wheelwells even back in ‘93 when I bought the car. I was just a young dumb apprentice at the time, and I had one of the bodymen I was working with patch in the quarters around the wheelwells. I had him flare them out a bit while he was at it to accommodate the wider rear tires and rearend.

It looked acceptable at the time, so I just ran with it and finished the car around them. He wouldn’t (and never did) tell me how he flared the quarters around the wheelwells though.
Huge red flag there IMO.

So far I’ve found filler at least 1/4” to 3/8” thick in spots, and you can see where he patched them inside the trunk. I’m sure I’ll find a multitude of other sins and hackery in there too when I cut them off. Unacceptable with the caliber of build I’m going for this time, so the quarters will eventually get fully replaced and modified a bit.

Sounds all too familiar lol when I was learning some of the stuff I found and seen perhaps did lol all good though live and learn. There's still hacks out there I just fired one.
