BUILD THREAD “The Juggernaut”

Nice work. I like your air induction idea and your cues back to early styling ideas and Oldsmobile engineering concepts. You should take this car to the Lansing Homecoming show next year. It would get a lot of attention. This year it's June 20th for anyone interested.
Thank you sir!
I quite enjoy history in many different facets anyways, so to look to previous Oldsmobile concepts and produce them in a new and unique way with my own personal take on them is rewarding for me for sure.

As for attending Lansing with the car next year, I'd absolutely love to. Realistically tho, I'm probably looking at another solid 5 years of work before the car nears completion. Especially at the rate I seem to move at! It'll have to remain a bucket list dream at this point I'm afraid. 🙁

If you liked the air induction and its homage to early Olds designs, I think you'll like the rear seat delete idea I've created and am currently working on.
SPOILER ALERT - if you don't want to skip ahead to the present just yet in the timeline of my build thread, you should STOP reading here...!!

As hinted at earlier, I made the decision early on to delete the rear seat and make the car into a two seater. This left the dilemma of what to do with the area the back seat used to occupy.
The battery is relocated to the trunk, so if I ever plan to do any competitive events in the future, I need to have a solid sealed partition between the trunk and passenger areas.
Unwilling to simply settle for a boring flat piece of sheetmetal attached to the trunk braces, I looked to the Corvettes and the area known as "The Waterfall". This is used to describe the molded section of the body that flows down between the seats.

Expanding on this concept further, I looked back to Oldsmobile for further design cues.
If one knows anything about the Cutlass line, they will know that "Cutlass" was actually a trim option in the base model F85 platform in the mid 60's. "Cutlass" became its own platform soon after that due to its popularity and the rest is history.

I found an image of an early F85 grille emblem, and this is what I came up with.

The blue masking tape lines in the pic are bend lines to give the piece a 3 dimensional aspect.

The bends were made and panels were roughed out to fill in the sides...

The center recess was made separately and added in after...

Trimming and bead rolled details were added to the side panels...

Then mounts for the seat belt harnesses were designed, fabricated and incorporated.

Although this will be a strong focal point in the interior of the car, think the actual F85 reference will actually be very subtle. I kinda doubt it will even get picked up on 90% of the time.
I am still working on this area, in fact it's where I'm at currently, hence the spoiler alert. Future plans are to wrap the waterfall and the side and door panels in a nice quality black leather to match the leather Corbeau front seats I'm using.
They're shown here:

I'll cover this and other associated bits a little more in depth when I get the rest of the build up to date.
Thanks for checking back guys, I look forward to your thoughts and comments on this area!

this car is a pure work of art, i love the concept you are going for and the results are unique and very well pulled off, keep up the great work.
Thank you!
There's many "more subtle" mods and touches that I've made to the car that I'll be covering in the near future here, so be sure to check back often!

Top notch work! I love the build. I feel your pain on the 17 bends on a 20' $100 SS line too. I totally jacked up a piece of 1/2" SS bending the fuel line on my wagon.

Just when i thought I was doing a good job on my car:blam:

 Great stuff

Thanks for the comments guys.
I'm a bit surprised tho - no "I love/hate the F85 design" on the rear firewall comments? I kinda figured I'd get some takes and opinions on that for sure! Just wondering how that will be received around here when the car is completed.
