BUILD THREAD “The Juggernaut”

Here's a pic of an ideal bumpsteer scenario. I wonder if, on these cars, it doesn't matter which end gets raised/lowered to achieve minimal toe swings? Here's a pic of ideal geometry.

And here's an article with more than you ever wanted to know about bumpsteer.

There's a whole series of articles that go in depth on every aspect of car suspension, worth a read for sure.

It may just be the picture angle, but it almost appears that your tie rod ends still seem to angle down towards the wheels slightly. I know that I’m going to have to shoot for them being as parallel as possible to have things optimized.

Just the pic angle. The tie rods look close to parallel to lower a-arm. Going way back to when i swapped in the 11in b-body spindles i had just guessed and lowered the inner tierod 1in. The swap to astro van spindles the bumpsteer was back. Right now the inners are lowered 1 3/8in from stock mounting hole.

Yep, it’s really real now. Although it still hasn’t quite sunken in yet. 20ish years of waiting, the day is finally here.

Big block Olds aluminum cylinder heads, the newest redesign with all the upgrades.
If you’re a performance Olds guy, you’ll understand these improvements.

And weighing in at only 37lbs each, fully assembled. Compare that to 99lbs bare for a factory cast iron head.

I’ve officially died and gone to gearhead heaven.

How much of a bump in compression and HP ought those to be good for? 77cc chambers for a 455? Should be up there for sure.

Oh, it should be worth at least 3-400 HP, depending on how many stickers I put on along with them.
🤣

You are serious bout this Olds business. The new heads are sweet. I have to keep my J(unk) heads for awhile yet..🙂

Yep, I feel ya. My stock heads were/are J heads too, along with a “oh, I know a guy that can port those for ya” port job on them that I’m quite convinced were hurting power. That’s part of the reason I’m so stoked to finally get my hands on a set of these.
These aluminum heads were part of the game plan all along.

Not done spending money yet though, now I’ve gotta pick a roller cam and lifters, roller rockers, head gaskets, intake and exhaust gaskets, etc etc. Shooting for anywhere north of 500 HP if I can swing it.
